Minera Agua Rica LLC (MAR), propiedad de la empresa canadiense Yamana Gold Inc. hasta 2011, luego pasó a manos de Xstrata Copper y Goldcorp,y luego a Glencore-Xstrata, tiene la intención de desarrollar un depósito de cobre-molibdeno-oro denominado el Proyecto Agua Rica ubicado a 25 km al norte de la ciudad de Andalgalá, en el área suroeste de la Sierra de Aconquija, en la provincia de Catamarca. Irá sustituyendo Bajo la Alumbrera (tambien de Glencore-Xstrata) cuando esta llegue al cierre de mina.

No hay certeza de que el proyecto se frene.

En el 2014 probablemente comience su construcción como remplazo de la mina Bajo la Alumbrera.
