Demarcation of Indios land in the Serra do Padeiro, Brazil

Description
The indigenous community Tupinamba lives of subsistence agriculture, mainly of cassava cultivation for the production of flour. Their main villages are situated in the area of Serra do Padeiro that extends the current municipalities of Buerarema and Una. Since 2003, the Indigenous communities of the region began a comprehensive process of resumption of its traditional lands that are currently occupied by farmers and landowners. According to the indigenous communities, this process was caused by the slowness with which the Fundacao Nacional do Indio (Funai) has responded to the demands of the community for the demarcation of their land. The resumption of traditional lands is at the root of a conflict between the local leaders, farmers, resulting in violence by military and federal police, gunmen action and torture.
