La empresa Great Panther (y la minera El Rosario) es contaminando el agua de Guanajuato mediante sus procesos de extraccion de metales, cuyos residuos han afectado durante años la calidad del agua en las presas La Soledad y La Esperanza. La minera arroja a las cuencas elementos que se vierten desde la presa en Mina Cata a traves del rio del mismo nombre, van a dar al rio Guanajuato y finalmente a la presa la Purisima.
