Communities opposing the construction of a dam by a Brazilian company which will divert water to the capital of the state and generate electricity to be sold expensive, while leaving the basin dry.

(Summary In English below) Veracruz es la entidad con más cuerpos de agua en todo México, por ello es blanco de varios proyectos para construcción de hidroeléctricas. El Inventario Nacional de Energías Renovables (INERE) elaborado por la Secretaría de Energía (SENER) señala que se podrían construir en los próximos años hasta 145 presas en Veracruz. 45 hidroeléctricas en la cuenca del Papaloapan, 18 en la cuenca del Bobos-Nautla, 8 para la cuenca de La Antigua, 6 para la cuenca del Jamapa y 11 para la cuenca de Coatzacoalcos, según el informe.
