El proyecto Tia Maria esta ubicado en la Provincia de Islay en el departamento de Arequipa, al sur de Peru, en un ecosistema de desierto con una sola cuenca hidrografica correspondiente al rio Tambo. Localizado en la quebrada Cachuyo (a 90 km de la ciudad de Arequipa y a 9 km al norte del pueblo de Cocachacra), que tiene su desembocadura en el valle del Tambo.
