Derrame de petroleo en el campo de Frade, Brasil

In 2011 a spill of crude oil of great proportion was registered in the sea, following the rupture of a pipeline. At the moment, a criminal action is ongoing but Chevron still operates freely on Brazilian territory

(Español y em Portugues, abajo) Campo de Frade, in Bacia de Campos dos Goytacazes, state of Rio de Janeiro, lies approximately 370 km (230 miles) northeast of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro. As is generally known, in the year of 2011 a spill of crude oil of great proportion was registered in the sea, following the rupture of a pipeline in the Submersible Rig Sedco 706, property of Transocean Brasil Ltda. At the time of the events, Chevron Brasil Upstream Frade held a 51.74% interest in the exploration of Campo de Frade, operating in partnership with Frade Japão Petróleo Ltda. (18.26%) and with Petrobrás (30%)(1). The company acquired the right to operate in the above mentioned Campo by means of the Concession Agreement No. 48000.003896/97-20, signed with Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis (ANP – National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels, the national authority in charge of regulating the industry in Brazil).

Chevron operates and holds a 51.7 percent interest in the Frade Field project. The field lies in a water depth of about 3,700 feet (1,128 m), approximately 230 miles (370 km) northeast of Rio de Janeiro, in the Campos Basin. Frade is a subsea development with wells tied back to a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel. Following the resumption of production from four wells in 2013, production at the remaining six wells restarted in the second quarter of 2014. Net daily production in 2014 averaged 12,000 barrels of crude oil and 4 million cubic feet of natural gas.
