Proyecto Lagunas Norte, Barrick Gold, Peru

Lagunas Norte is a gold mine owned by Barrick in Quiruvilca district, La Libertad. The mine’s activities generated high levels of violence since it opened in 2005. The mining operation is being expanded.



Description:

En 2013, el 20 de febrero la Central Única de Rondas Campesinas de La Libertad, la Asociación Yawar Wayna y el Frente Amplio de Defensa de los Intereses de La Libertad iniciaron un paro indefinido para protestar por el incumplimiento de acuerdos y la extensión del proyecto a las cabecera de cuencas de Shuyugual, Caballo Moro y El Perejil.
