Data Use Policy
All content provided by the Global Environmental Justice Atlas (hereafter, the EJAtlas) is publicly accessible through the case sheets available on the online platform. The content is made available under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial- ShareAlike 3.0 Unported licence. You are free to use the work for non-commercial purposes only, with appropriate attribution and reference provided to the EJAtlas. The resulting work must be distributed under the same licence or a similar one.
The bulk dataset (.csv/ods format) is only made available upon reasonable request, which requires approval by the Direction Group of the EJAtlas. All data requests that aim to support environmental justice, meet ethical standards, acknowledge the collective data collection effort, and carefully consider the potentials and limitations of data analysis, are generally considered reasonable requests.
Individuals and organisations interested in using EJAtlas data, can solicit a formal data request form via email to [email protected], indicating “Data Request” in the subject, followed by a short explanation of the purpose of data use and the type of data requested (i.e., case categories, geographic region, specific data fields). After a first screening, the applicant will receive a detailed data request form to be filled in, which will be evaluated by the Direction Board with regard to the above mentioned criteria. If the data request is approved, the bulk dataset will be shared following a Declaration of Responsible Data Use and Conditions of Use that needs to be signed by the applicants interested in using the EJAtlas data. Note that the shared bulk data can only be used for the indicated purpose and that any further uses require a new data request.
